大相撲名古屋場所。横綱白鵬が大関照ノ富士を下し、４５度目の優勝を果たした。白鵬は６場所連続休場後の優勝である。一方敗れたとはいえ、照ノ富士は最近の好成績が評価され、７３人目の横綱に昇進することが確実である。体調や故障により一時は序二段にまで落ちた後での奇跡的な復活である。

お二人ともモンゴル出身の力士である。二人に限らず近年は外国出身力士が増え、彼らによって相撲界が支えられているといってよい。

相撲は日本文化を表徴するものの一つである。そんな中、日本相撲協会は、外国人力士を意識して、相撲道や伝統を担う意味などを自覚してもらうための方策に苦心している。

その方策の一つとして、アメリカ・ハワイ出身で、戦後初の外国出身の力士となった元関脇・高見山さんがつくった標語が採り上げられている。彼は優勝も経験、３９歳に親方となり東関部屋を設立すると、「十の心」という大相撲の力士として弁えるべきことを求めた。それは、我々日本人も改めて、心して、意識せねばならぬものばかりである。最近の安倍・菅政治の下で形骸しつつある、日本の良き、道徳・倫理を取り戻すためにも。

その「十の心」とは、 

1. “おはよう”という親愛の心
2. “はい”という率直な心
3. “すみません”という反省の心
4. “どうぞ”という謙譲の心
5. “私がします”という奉仕の心
6. “ありがとう”という感謝の心
7. “お蔭様で”という謙虚な心
8. “お疲れさん”という労（いたわ）りの心
9. “なにくそ”という忍耐の心
10. “嘘をつくな”という正直な心

Yokozuna Hakuho won for the 45th time after defeating Ozeki Terunofuji on the grand sumo event in Nagoya. On the other hand, though Terunofuji was defeated, he is certain to be promoted to the 73rd Yokozuna considering the recent excellent performance. It is a miraculous revival after falling to the lowest rank due to physical condition. Both are sumo wrestlers from Mongolia. It may be said that the sumo world is supported by the wrestlers from foreign countries in recent years. Sumo is one of typical Japanese culture. Under such situation, the Japan Sumo Association is trying to make foreign sumo wrestlers aware of the sumo-dō and the meaning of traditionality. As one of the measures, the slogan made by Takamiyama, ex-Sekiwake who was from Hawaii in the US and became the first sumo wrestler from the foreign countries after the war is taken up. When he has become a stable master of Azumaseki stable at the age of 39, he asked his pupils to know "Ten Hearts." It is only the one that we Japanese must also be conscious of again. It is required to regain the morality and ethics of Japan, which has been ruined under the recent Abe-Suga politics.

The "Ten Hearts" are:

1. A dear heart saying that “Good morning.”
2. A candid(frank) mind saying that “Yes, certainly.”
3. The heart of reflection saying that “I am sorry.”
4. The heart of humility saying that “Please.”
5. The heart of service saying that “I will do.”
6. The heart of gratitude that “Thank you.”
7. The humble heart that “Thank you for your concern(cooperation).”
8. A considerate heart that “Thank you for all your hard work today.”
9. The heart of patience saying that “Hell no, I won’t quit for anything.”
10. An honest mind saying that “Don’t tell a lie.”
